Tribute to Cpl. Steven R. Koch
Killed in Action
March 3, 2008

That's what it takes to be a hero, a little gem of innocence inside you that makes you want to believe
that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end.

Memorial dedicated at Our Lady of Lourdes School

The Cpl. Steven R. Koch-POW/MIA Memorial was dedicated on the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes School,
44 Cleveland Avenue, Milltown, on Saturday, October 25, 2008.
This memorial includes several flags and two stones, one of which is devoted to Steven Koch.

Cpl. Steven R. Koch, 23, died of combat wounds on March 3, 2008 in the Sabari District of Afghanistan.

Koch is survived by his wife Amy and a daughter, Zoe, both of Spotswood;
his parents, Christine and William Koch of Milltown, and a brother, William Koch, also of Milltown.

"My husband and I are very proud of our son," his mother told The Star-Ledger of Newark on Wednesday night. "He died for his country and he died loving his country."

His mother said Koch had nearly completed his 15-month tour of duty and was due home next month.

Koch joined the Army in March 2006 and took airborne training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Our hearts and prayers go out to this brave soldier's family and friends.
