INCIDENT/CRIME: DWI

On 08/02/2015 at 2153 hours, Ptl. Nichols observed a red Dodge sitting through a green light at the intersection of Main Street and Summerhill Road as a line of cars began honking their horns at it. The Dodge then proceeded northbound on Summerhill Road, failing to maintain its lane. After conducting a motor vehicle stop in the Krauser's parking lot, it was discovered that the driver of the Dodge, Donald Noack of Spotswood was intoxicated. He was subsequently placed under arrest, transported to Spotswood Headquarters and released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Shoplifting

On 08/01/2015 at 2029 hours, police were dispatched to a shoplifting at the Shoprite on Summerhill Road. Officers were further advised that loss prevention was unable to stop the suspects and they were fleeing the scene in a Toyota, eastbound on Old Stage Road.

Ptl. Sasso located the Toyota on Old Stage Road near Janice Drive and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Upon stopping the vehicle, an investigation revealed that the driver, Janette Baez of South River, was in possession of approximately $200.00 in stolen merchandise from Shoprite. She was subsequently placed under arrest, transported to Spotswood Headquarters and released with a court date pending.

On 07/31/2015 at 1735 hours, police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the Shoprite parking lot on Summerhill Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the driver of one of the vehicles, Douglas Carlen of New Brunswick was intoxicated. He was subsequently placed under arrest, transported to Spotswood Headquarters and released with a municipal court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Contempt of Court

On 07/30/2015 at approximately 1800 hours, Horus Cabralas of Spotswood appeared to a scheduled Spotswood Municipal Court date highly intoxicated (Approximately 0.20% B.A.C.) He was subsequently placed under arrest during the court session and charged with Contempt of Court. He was processed and released with a new court date scheduled.

During the same court session, two other individuals appeared to their scheduled court date with active warrants for their arrest. They were also placed under arrest for the active warrants and processed as per departmental policy. One posted bail while the other was transported to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.

On 07/30/2015 at 0105 hours, Patrolman Parsons observed a vehicle on George Street obstructing the flow of traffic with equipment violations. Upon stopping the vehicle the driver, Mina Keriacoss of East Brunswick, was found to be intoxicated. Keriacoss was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where she was processed and released with a pending Municipal Court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Assault (Bodily Fluids), Aggravated Assault (Simple Assault on Police), Resisting Arrest, Obstructing the Administration of Justice, Criminal Mischief, Public Nuisance, Interfere With Borough Police

On 07/27/2015 at 1654 police were dispatched to Clear Water Village for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, police observed Joanne Cottingham of Spotswood highly intoxicated and holding a bloody rag to an injury. EMS was subsequently called.

During the investigation, Cottingham grew irate and refused to calm down or cooperate. She also threw the bloody rag at Ptl. Nichols, striking him in the chest / neck area with the rag, while lunging toward him.

Cottingham continued to actively resist by tensing up and pulling away. Officers were able to handcuff her after a brief struggle. While being escorted and placed in the patrol car, Cottingham continued screaming profanities and create a disturbance. She also began kicking the rear passenger's side door of the patrol car.

Cottingham was subsequently transported to Spotswood Headquarters where she remained uncooperative and was unable to be fully processed. She has pending court dates for the above charges.

INCIDENT/CRIME: DWI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report, Open Container in Vehicle, Reckless Driving.

On 07/26/2015 at 0225 hours Ptl. Drude and Parsons were dispatched to the "Kabaret" club at 100 Summerhill Road for a report of a hit and run accident.

Upon arrival, witnesses advised officers that a silver Nissan struck a parked car and fled the scene, northbound on Summerhill Road. Witnesses also provided the officers with a license plate.

Ptl. Drude proceeded northbound on Summerhill Road, located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Summerhill Road, at the intersection of Rues Lane, in East Brunswick.

During the stop the driver, Stephen Huston of South Amboy was found to be intoxicated. There was also an open container of Ketel One Vodka and Ruffino Wine in the vehicle. Huston was subsequently placed under arrest. He was then transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he was processed and released pending a Spotswood Municipal court date.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT:

On Saturday 7/25/2015, at approximately 7:57 am, East Brunswick Police Units were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Cranbury Road and Ryders Lane. Mark C. Seube of Hamilton NJ was operating a Spotswood ambulance on Ryders Lane near Cranbury Road. Hinal Patel of Piscataway, NJ was the front seat passenger. Both Mark Seube and Hinal Patel are EMTs with the Spotswood EMS. The EMTs were responding to assist East Brunswick Rescue Squad as mutual aid at a motor vehicle crash with injuries in East Brunswick Township. Initial investigation revealed the ambulance, a 2008 Ford van, was traveling west on Ryders Lane at the intersection with Cranbury Road. The vehicle had its emergency lights and sirens activated. The ambulance proceed through the intersection and was struck by a 2013 Toyota Prius traveling south on Cranbury Road which was operated by Kathleen Meade of East Brunswick NJ. The ambulance overturned and slid into a 2011 Subaru Legacy that was stopped on Ryders Lane in the east bound lanes operated by Kristen Fahrman of East Brunswick NJ. The ambulance passenger, Hinal Patel, was killed as a result of the collision.

Both drivers, Mark Seube of the Spotswood EMS and Kathleen Meade were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Kathleen Meade did not sustain any injuries as a result of the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation by the East Brunswick Police Department Special Operations Section. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Ptl. John Bird or Ptl. Glenn Tabasko of the East Brunswick Police Department at 732-390-6969.

Several emergency service agencies responded to assist at the scene including East Brunswick Fire Department District 2, Milltown EMS, Robert Wood Johnson University Basic Life Support as well as the Advance Life Support Units.

Due to the nature of this tragic incident, ambulance from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital will be covering all emergency responses within the Borough of Spotswood for an interim period.

Spotswood is a smaller community whose residents take pride in the services provided by our Emergency Services family. On behalf of the Mayor, Spotswood Borough Council and the Spotswood Emergency Services community, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Spotswood Emergency Medical Technician Hinal Pater in this very tragic and difficult time.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Possession of Cocaine, Disorderly Conduct, Us/Influence of CDS, Public Nuisance, Interference with Borough Police.

On 07/19/2015 at 2351 hours, police were dispatched to Main Street near PNC Bank for a report of an intoxicated male walking in the middle of the road.

Upon arrival, officers observed Levan Hoderdzishvili as he walked into a tree and a traffic control box. He then stumbled off the curb at the intersection of Main Street and DeVoe Avenue.

After stopping Hoderdzishvili, he was found to be highly intoxicated and under the influence of CDS. Although he was walking westbound, he stated that he was walking to his home in Sayreville. Additionally, he would not comply with officer's orders and began yelling profanities in the roadway.

Hoderdzishvili was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood headquarters. At headquarters, he was found to be in possession of Cocaine, which was wrapped in tin foil and placed in his cigarette pack.

Hoderdzishvili was processed as per departmental policy and released (R.O.R.) with a pending court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief, Obstruction of Justice, Harassment, Public Nuisance, Interference With Police

On 07/17/2015 at approximately 1915 hours police responded to the pool area of the Clear Water Village Clubhouse for a report of a intoxicated male refusing to leave.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a female lifeguard who advised them that Devon Williams was harassing her. He was also highly intoxicated, creating a disturbance and refusing to leave.

During the investigation, police observed Williams to be highly intoxicated as he continued to create a disturbance. He also refused to provide officers with his pedigree information when asked.

As officers were attempting to place Williams under arrest he began resisting by tensing up, thrashing, jerking his body and pulling away. Police were able to subsequently secure Williams in handcuffs after the struggle.

After being transported to headquarters, Williams remained uncooperative. While in the holding cell, Williams attempted to break the surveillance camera and attempted to clog the toilet with toilet paper.

It was later discovered that Williams had approximately $5000.00 in active warrants out of multiple municipalities. In addition to the $5000.00 warrants, bail was set at $3500.00 for the additional Spotswood charges. Williams was subsequently transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of the bail / warrants.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Shoplifting

While investigating an unrelated incident at Shoprite, store loss prevention alerted police to a suspected shoplifter. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that John Wagner of Old Bridge had shoplifted approximately $835.00 worth of merchandise from the store. Wagner was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters where he was processed as per department policy. He was subsequently transported to Middlesex County Adult Correction center in lieu of $20,000.00 bail.

On 07/15/2015 at 1558 hours, Ptl. Nichols observed a silver Eclipse traveling 57 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver Jamie Fazio of East Brunswick was found to be in possession of a plastic zip lock bag containing suspected Marijuana. She was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. Fazio was then processed and released with a pending Spotswood Municipal Court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Use/Influence of Controlled Dangerous Substance / Contempt of Court

On 07/14/2015 at 1148 hours, during a Spotswood Municipal Court session, court staff alerted police, advising them that Jacquelyn Shortlidge appeared to be under the influence while she was appearing in court for unrelated charges. Upon investigating, police found Shortildge to be under the influence of CDS. Furthermore, she was found to have an active $500.00 warrant out of Old Bridge Municipal Court. She was placed under arrest and processed as per departmental policy. She was then R.O.R. with new Spotswood and Old Bridge Municipal Court dates.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Public Nuisance

On 07/13/2015 at approximately 2308 hours police were investigating an unrelated incident on Main Street. During their investigation, Paul Bruno of Spotswood began creating a disturbance by yelling from his front porch at the officers across the street, disturbing the neighbors. When officers proceeded across the street to investigate the disturbance, he was placed under arrest for creating Public Nuisance. He was then transported to headquarters and released with a Municipal Court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Eluding Police with Motor Vehicle / Aggravated Assault with Motor Vehicle / Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose / Possession of Paraphernalia

On 07/04/2015 at approximately 2140 hours Patrolman Genovese attempted to stop a Toyota for improper high beams and speeding (46 in a 35 mph zone). Upon attempting to stop the Toyota, the driver (later identified as Jia Q Han of Franklin Twp.) began driving recklessly by weaving and break checking the officer, almost causing an accident.

The driver of the Toyota continued to elude the officer into East Brunswick as Ptl. Richard Sasso joined. The Toyota continued onto Old Bridge Turnpike in East Brunswick, then turned down a dead end street off Old Bridge Turnpike in South River.

The officers exited their vehicles and approached the Toyota ordering Han out at gun point. Han then turned the vehicle around and attempted to run the officers over with the car.

The chase then continued onto Old Bridge Turnpike in South River, Route 18 North in East Brunswick, through the city of New Brunswick, onto Route 1 in North Brunswick and Edison and onto Georges Road in North Brunswick. The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle jumped a curb in North Brunswick. During the pursuit, the Spotswood officers were assisted by officers from North Brunswick and Edison.

Ptl. Genovese and Sasso were able to identify the Toyota’s Connecticut license plate as a rental vehicle, rented by a Franklin resident. With the assistance of Franklin PD, they subsequently found Han in possession of the Toyota at his residence. There was also drug paraphernalia as well as a Hatchet on the passenger’s side seat of the Toyota.

Han was arrested and transported to Spotswood headquarters where he was processed. He was then remanded to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick. Bail was set at $100,000.

On 07/02/2015 at 2208 hours, police were dispatched to an abandoned house on DeVoe Avenue for a report of a suspicious male on the property.

Upon arrival, police came in contact with a male sitting in the driver seat of a Hyundai which was parked and running in the driveway of the abandoned home. The man identified as Kenneth Helmold of Monroe was unable to articulate a reason as to why he parked there. While making contact with the male, it was found that he was under the influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. He was subsequently processed and released with a pending municipal court date.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Possession/Use of False Government Identification

On 06/30/2015 at approximately 1830 hours, police responded to the Shoprite for a report of two shoplifters fleeing the store in a Nissan bearing PA plates. Upon arrival, Ptl. Nichols observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene, making an improper turn onto Old Stage Road while cutting off another vehicle.
Based on the information given, police conducted a high risk stop on Old Stage Road near Roosevelt Avenue in East Brunswick. During the high risk stop, the male passenger, Neville Laibhen of Philadelphia did not follow commands. Also, he was found to be in possession of a fake N.J. driver license with Master Card / Visa gift cards that were purchased with the false identity. The investigation also revealed that Shoprite Loss Prevention attempted to stop the men when they attempted to buy baby formula with suspicious gift cards.

Laibhen was arrested and charged with Possession/Use of False Government Identification. The Credit/Gift Cards were also seized for further investigation.

On 06/29/2015 at approximately 1600 hours, police came in contact with Marc Sternlieb at the baseball field behind Spotswood High School for an unrelated incident. Upon making contact with Sternlieb, he was found to be in possession of Marijuana, a Marijuana pipe and an open container of an alcoholic beverage which were all located in his vehicle. He was subsequently arrested and charged with a pending municipal court date pending.

INCIDENT/CRIME: DWI / Refuse to Submit Breath Sample

On 06/21/2015 at 2119, Ptl. Nelson Nichols observed a Lexus stopped on Crescent Avenue at the intersection of Old Stage Road with an equipment violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed a male driver exit the vehicle and proceed to the passenger’s seat, switching seats with a female passenger.

Further investigation revealed that the male driver, identified as David Frenze of Pennsylvania, had been driving the car while intoxicated. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood Headquarters. At headquarters Frenze refused to provide a sample of his breath. He was later released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

On 06/20/2015 at 0210 hours, police observed Cadillac traveling 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was determined that the driver, Anthony Nevarez of Helmetta was intoxicated. On 06/17/2015 at 2120 hours, police observed a Mazda traveling 38 mph in a 25 mph zone. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver Renz Anonuevo was found to be under the influence of Heroin and Marijuana. Also he was found to be in possession of Heroin and paraphernalia. He was subsequently arrested, transported to Spotswood headquarters and later released with a pending court date.

Upon arrival it was discovered that Travis Davidson had taken approximately $191.00 worth of merchandise from the store. On 06/07/2015 at 0226 hours, Patrolman Parsons observed a Dodge failing to maintain its lane with an equipment violation on Main Street. While trying to stop the vehicle, it almost struck the curb. Upon stopping the Dodge, the driver Christopher Laul of South River was found to be intoxicated. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters. He was later released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

On 05/27/2015 at 1511 hours police were dispatched to the area of Old Stage Road for a report of a possible DWI. Upon stopping the suspect vehicle on Summerhill Road, the driver, John Freeman of Old Bridge was found to be under the influence of CDS. Also, he was found to be in possession of paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to Spotswood headquarters where he was processes and released with a pending municipal court date.

On 05/24/2015 at 2341 hours, Sgt. Mayo observed a Toyota fail to come to a complete stop at a red light at the intersection of Main Street and DeVoe Avenue. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver Arthur Galarza was found to be in possession of Marijuana and one hitter pipe. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he was processed and released with a municipal court date.

On 05/20/2015 at 2234 hours police were dispatched to the area of Main Street to be on the lookout for a white Lexus involved in an unrelated incident in Monroe Twp. Upon arrival, Ptl. Nichols observed the Lexus make an improper turn without utilizing a signal at the intersection of Main Street and Summerhill Road. The Lexus also had equipment violations. While conducting a high risk stop on the vehicle, the driver would not immediately follow instructions. During the investigation, the driver, Phillip Howard of Monroe was found to be intoxicated. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood Headquarters. He was later released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

On 05/13/2015 at 0128 hours, Ptl. Parsons observed an Acura with equipment violations on Main Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, Jason Bezerra was found to be in possession of Marijuana and a one Hitter Pipe. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he was processed as per departmental and released with a municipal court date.

INCIDENT / CRIME: Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Theft of Service

On 05/10/2015 at 1847 hours, police responded to a 911 call on Ellenel Blvd for a report of an intruder in the house.

Upon arrival, officers came in contact with Jason Hubbard who was inside the house on Ellenel Blvd. Police subsequently placed Hubbard under arrest for Criminal Trespass.

Further investigation revealed that Hubbard entered the home through an open door, three days prior, when the homeowner was taking out the garbage. After entering the house, he proceeded into a spare bedroom where he stayed under a bed for 3 days. He also began charging his 4 cell phones utilizing an electric outlet under the bed.

Hubbard remained living under the bed in the spare bedroom until the homeowner heard a noise in the bedroom. When the homeowner looked under the bed, he found Hubbard and immediately called police.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Hubbard was also charged with Burglary and Theft of Services (electric current). He was transported to Spotswood Police Headquarters where he was processed as per departmental policy. He was then transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $50,000.00 bail.

On 05/09/2015 at 0247 hours, Patrolman Sasso observed a Pontiac traveling 35 mph in a 25 mph zone and failing to maintain its lane with a head light out on Erickson Avenue. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, Safiyyah Williams of Monroe was found to be intoxicated. She was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where she was processed and released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

On 05/04/2015 at 2353 hours, police responded to a noise complaint at Michael Road Park. Upon arrival, officers made contact with multiple individuals. While speaking with the involved parties, Celayna Gallo of Spotswood was found to be in possession of a wax paper fold containing suspected Heroin residue. She was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where she was processed and released with a Spotswood Municipal Court date.

INCIDENT / CRIME: Disorderly Conduct, Assault on Police, Resisting Arrest with Force

0n 05/03/2015 at 0703 hours Ptl Gallo and Ptl. Parsons observed an intoxicated male acting disorderly on Summerhill Road, near Vaugh Avenue. Upon approaching the man, later identified as Jason Rodriguez of Passaic, Rodriguez became violent and stuck Ptl. Parson in the throat and chest. Rodriguez continued to violently resist arrest as the officers attempted to handcuff him.

After the officers successfully handcuffed Rodriguez, they placed him in a patrol car. Rodriguez then began attempting to kick the back window out in the patrol car. He also began banging his head against the glass partition.

After being transported to Spotswood Police Headquarters, he was processed as per departmental policy. He was then transported to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center default of $15,000.00 bail.

On 04/26/2015 at 1508 hours, police received a report of 3 suspicious males in the back yard of an abandoned house on Somerdale Street. Upon arrival, officers came in contact with Julio Alberto, Edward Molina and Michael Serrano-Garcia, all of Elizabeth N.J. The investigation revealed that the men worked for a property maintenance company and decided to smoke Marijuana while tending to the property. Additionally, the males were in possession of one Marijuana blunt, a one hitter, 3 Marijuana grinders and 4 plastic bags containing suspected Marijuana. All males were arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where they were processed as per departmental policy. They were subsequently released with Spotswood Municipal Court dates.

Furthermore, Ramerez was found to be in possession of approximately 33 grams of Marijuana. He was arrested and transported to SPD where he was processed and released with a court date pending.

On 04/22/2015 at 1710 hours, police responded to the Shoprite parking lot for a report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, investigation revealed that Nicholas Klinger struck a male victim in the face causing serious bodily injury during an altercation over a parking spot. Klinger was subsequently arrested and transported to SPD where he was processed as per department policy and released ROR with a pending court date. The victim was sent to the hospital for his injuries.

On 04/05/2015 at 0048 hours police observed a white Lexus failing to maintain its lane on Manalapan Road. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, Duke Chung was found to be intoxicated. While Patrolmen Drude and Parsons were attempting to place Chung under arrest, Chung grabbed at the officers and punched Ptl. Drude in the stomach. After the brief struggle officers were able to successfully secure Chung. He was subsequently transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he was processed. He was then taken to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.

On 04/04/2015 at 1237 hours, police were dispatched to the Shoprite parking lot for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, police observed Sebastian Tornabene yelling and acting disorderly. Additionally, the investigation revealed that Tornabene was in a verbal altercation with another individual and smashed the victim’s windshield. Tornabene was subsequently arrested for Criminal Mischief and Disorderly Conduct. He has a pending court date for the above charges.

On 03/29/2015 at approximately 0045 hours, Patrolman Drude stopped a Saturn on Main Street for multiple equipment violations. During the stop, Morgan Montgomery of Spotswood was found to be in possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additionally, she had an active warrant for her arrest out of East Brunswick and her license was suspended. She was subsequently arrested and turned over to East Brunswick Police for the warrant. She has a Spotswood Municipal Court date pending.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Possession of Marijuana/ Possession of Paraphernalia / Under Influence of CDS / Underage Consumption of Alcohol / Interference with Police / Contempt of Court

On 03/25/2015 at 0151 hours, Ptl. Parsons stopped a Honda on Manalapan Road, near Daniel Road for an equipment violation. During the stop, the driver, Jacquelin Nemec of Helmetta was found to be in possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia. The passenger, Katherine Niedzielski of Spotswood was also found to be in possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

Additionally, Niedzielski was found to be under the influence of CDS. Furthermore, it was discovered that she consumed alcohol while being under the legal age to do so. Additionally, the investigation revealed that Niedzielski had two outstanding warrants for her arrest, one from Monroe and the other from East Brunswick.

Nemec and Niedzielski were both placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood Headquarters. At headquarters it was discovered that Niedzielski was concealing additional Marijuana in her bra. Niedzielski is charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, Use/Influence of CDS, Underage Consumption of Alcohol and Interfering with Police. She was turned over to East Brunswick Police for the East Brunswick warrant with a pending Spotswood Municipal Court date. Nemic was released from headquarters with a municipal court date.

On 03/24/2015 at 1928 hours, police stopped a Toyota on Manalapan Road after it almost struck a patrol car. During the stop, the driver Alexander Borrelli of Monroe was found to be in possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia. The passenger, Joseph Kijak of Spotswood was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia as he was also under the influence of C.D.S. Both men were subsequently arrested and released with a municipal court date.

On 03/24/2015 at 0900 hours at Spotswood Municipal Court, Frank Dorio III of Monroe Twp. was found to be highly intoxicated and he created a disturbance when arrived to his mandatory court appearance for unrelated charges. A preliminary breath test indicated a reading above 0.40% B.A.C. He was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Contempt of Court. He was then transported to the hospital by Spotswood E.M.S. due to his high level of intoxication.

On 03/24/2015 at 0900 hours at Spotswood Municipal Court, Dale Kopf of Monroe Twp. was highly intoxicated when he arrived to his mandatory court appearance for an unrelated D.W.I. / Driving While Suspended complaint. A preliminary breath test indicated a reading above 0.19% B.A.C. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct. He was then transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center as a sentence for the D.W.I. / Driving Suspended charges.

On 03/13/2015 at 2106 hours, Ptl. Sasso and Ptl. Berlingieri responded to Short Street for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, David Mason of Spotswood grabbed Ptl. Sasso by the shirt and took a swing at him. Ptl. Sasso and Berlingieri then attempted to place Mason under arrest. Mason continued to violently resist arrest but officers were able to successfully handcuff and secure him. During the investigation Cioffi was showing signs of aggression towards officers and would not follow lawful orders. As officers attempted to arrest Cioffi, he resisted arrest by pulling away and grabbing fixed objects. INCIDENT/CRIME: Resisting Arrest (Eluding), Unlicensed Dog

On 02/26/2015 at approximately 2145 hours, a $5000.00 warrant out of Spotswood Municipal Court was issued for the arrest of Russell Nordstrom of Spotswood. This warrant stemmed from an incident which occurred on 02/22/2015 where Nordstrom ran from a Helmetta officer (Ptl. Baltazar) in Clear Water Village as the Helmetta officer attempted to serve Nordstrom with an active Helmetta warrant.

After the Spotswood warrant was issued, police responded to Nordstrom’s residence to place him under arrest. While Patrolman Nichols was placing Nordstrom under arrest, Nordstrom’s dog bit the officer. It was also discovered that the dog was unlicensed. Nordstrom was arrested and transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of the $5000.00 bail.

Upon arrival, Parolee Kenneth Rittman of Spotswood was found to be in possession of a Shotgun with ammunition, a crack pipe, 2 cut straws with white powder residue and Suboxone which was not prescribed to him. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of a no bail warrant for the violation of Parole and a $50,000 warrant issued by Spotswood.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver Kinjal Patel of North Brunswick was found to be intoxicated. On 02/20/2015 at 2205 hours Ptl. Berlingieri and Ptl Nichols responded to a report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle. Upon arrival, police found Arsen Khachiyan of East Brunswick highly intoxicated and sleeping behind the wheel. The engine was also running and a vodka bottle was next to him. Upon waking Khachiyan, he refused to follow Officers’ orders and immediately became violent, punching one of the officers in the stomach.
As Khachiyan continued to violently resist arrest, Ptl. Nichols had to spray him two times with pepper spray during the struggle in an attempt to get him to comply. After the officers were able to secure Khachiyan, he was transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he refused to submit a sample of breath. He was subsequently transported to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $25,000 bail.

INCIDENT/CRIME: Suicidal man with a gun

On 02/02/2015 at 1934 hours Spotswood Police were notified that there was a suicidal man with a gun, last seen leaving his home in a white pickup truck in Monroe Twp. Soon after, Ptl. Nichols located the white pickup truck pulling into the Monroe Deli parking lot, at the Spotswood border. Ptl. Nichols immediately conducted a high risk motor vehicle stop on the pickup truck, along with Patrolman Genovese (Spotswood Police) and Patrolman Baltazar (Helmetta Police). The subject was safely secured and taken into custody. A loaded revolver which was placed on the passenger seat of the truck was also secured. The investigation was subsequently turned over to Monroe Police Department.

On 01/28/2015 at 2210 Sgt. Mayo conducted a motor vehicle stop on Summerhill Road after a Chrysler almost struck his patrol vehicle. During the stop, the driver Kenneth Rittman of Spotswood was found to be under the influence. The investigation also revealed that Rittman was snorting crushed pills along with consuming alcohol just prior to driving. He was subsequently arrested and released with a municipal court date.

On 01/25/2015 at 2007 hours, police responded to 148 Main Street for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, police came in contact with Grant Singer of Spotswood and Nicholas Shahinian of Monroe. During the investigation, it was discovered that both males possessed a bag of suspected Marijuana, 3 cut straws with white powder residue, 18 plastic baggies commonly used to store Marijuana, a pipe a grinder, 2 “one hitters” 4 roaches and a large “bong”. Both males were arrested and subsequently released with a municipal court date.

On 01/25/2015 at 1723 hours police responded to George Street to assist a citizen. While at George Street, police came in contact with Steven Bender of Spotswood. Bender appeared to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and intoxicated. He subsequently was also found to be in possession of 2 Heroin needles.

While Bender was being placed under arrest, he resisted arrest and began reaching into a back pocket while resisting. After being secured, it was discovered that Bender hand an additional uncapped hypodermic needle / syringe in the back pocket he was reaching into.

Further investigation revealed that Bender also possessed 3 wax paper folds containing Heroin, 10 empty wax paper folds and two syringe caps. After being arrested, Bender was transported to Middlesex Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $15,000 bail.

During the stop, the driver Renz Anunuevo of Old Bridge was found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing Marijuana, a hypodermic needle/syringe, a glass pipe, a metal pipe and a stone pipe. Anunuevo was subsequently arrested and released with a municipal court date.

On 01/21/2015 at 1815 hours, a resident of Clear Water Village reported that a large amount of “drugs” were left in her mailbox. Upon arrival, police discovered that a suspect left 43 individually packaged bags (almost a brick) of Heroin in the caller’s mailbox. The Heroin was seized as evidence and the investigation is to continue.

On 01/18/2015 at 1812 hours police responded to George Street and attempted to serve an active warrant on the subject, Steven Bender of Spotswood. Upon arrival Bender’s mother, Brenda Updike of Spotswood, provided police with false information as to Bender’s whereabouts. During this time, Bender fled from the scene on foot and attempted to hide under the deck in the backyard of a nearby neighbor’s house. Bender was then located and was placed under arrest. He was subsequently transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections center in lieu of bail.

On 01/15/2015 at 2010 hours officers responded to 289 Main Street in an attempt to serve the suspect, Brenton McPherson of Spotswood, with an active Middlesex County Fugitive Warrant. Upon arrival, officers were able to locate McPherson and place him under arrest. He was subsequently found to be in possession of suspected Heroin, 2 hypodermic needles/ syringes and drug paraphernalia. After he was arrested, he was transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of bail.

On 01/14/2015 at 2210 hours, police responded to the area of Village Drive West for a report of a red Mustang driving recklessly. Upon arrival, police located the red mustang on Short Street. At that time, they came in contact with the driver, David Mason of Spotswood and passenger, Tiffanie Webb of Helmetta. During the investigation Mason was found to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Additionally, Mason was found to be in possession of an assisted blade knife, 4 folding knives and a black police baton. Furthermore, he continued to act disorderly, refused to comply with officer’s orders and created a public nuisance during the investigation. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. He has a pending court date for said charges.

During the investigation, Tiffanie Webb continued to yell, shout and create a disturbance in the neighborhood. Based on this, Patrolman Sasso placed her under arrest for disorderly conduct.

Upon arrival, Tiffanie Webb of Helmetta continued to yell, scream and create a disturbance despite officer’s multiple orders to stop. While being placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, she continued to resist by pulling away, tensing up and resisting officer’s control. She was subsequently secured, transported to Spotswood Headquarters and released with a municipal court date.

On 01/12/2015 at 1723 hours, after being stopped for a traffic violation, it was discovered that Mark Tice of Spotswood had an active Spotswood criminal warrant. He was arrested and transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of bail.

INCIDENT/CHARGE: Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Paraphernalia / Open Container Of Alcohol Vehicle / Underage Consumption/Possession of Alcohol

On 01/10/2015 at approximately 0213 hours, Ptl Nichols was on an unrelated motor vehicle stop on Manalapan Road. During that time, a Volkswagen passed the motor vehicle stop illegally, without proceeding with due caution (Move Over Law). Ptl. Nichols then conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Volkswagen on Manalapan Road. During the stop the driver, Jessica Trombetta of Manalapan and a 17 year old male juvenile passenger were found to be in possession of a jar containing suspected Marijuana, a tin container containing suspected Marijuana, 2 Marijuana Grinders, 2 Glass Pipes, a wood pipe and a partially empty bottle of “Jagermeister”. Trombetta was subsequently arrested and released with a municipal court date pending. The 17 year old male passenger was taken into custody and subsequently released to a parent with juvenile charges pending.

INCIDENT/CHARGE: DWI / Refuse to Submit Breath Sample

On 01/06/2015 at 2225 hours, Patrolman Parsons conducted a motor vehicle stop on Manalapan Road after observing a Mitsubishi with equipment violations. During the stop the driver, Thomas Daszykowski of Monroe was found to be intoxicated. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Spotswood Headquarters where he refused to provide a sample of breath. He was released with a pending municipal court date.

On 01/02/2015 at 2132 hours, Patrolman Parsons conducted a motor vehicle stop on Brunswick Avenue after observing a Chevrolet driving with a head light out. During the stop the driver, Tyler Zuyrawski of Milltown was found to be in possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia. He was subsequently arrested and released pending a municipal court date.

On 01/01/2015 at 1845 hours, police responded to a report of a disturbance at 289 Main Street. During the investigation, Jose Gutierrez was found to be in possession of a zip lock bag containing suspected Marijuana, a large bong, a Marijuana pipe, a glass “bowl”, two “one hitters”, a container containing eleven Marijuana roaches, and a blue Marijuana grinder. Gutierrez was arrested and released pending a municipal court date.

During the investigation the driver, Santokh Singh of Helmetta, was found to be intoxicated. He was subsequently arrested and released pending a municipal court date.
