WHY & HOW: Subject was a passenger in a Kelly's Cab that was stopped by Sgt. Keenan for a traffic violation. The defendant, who was highly intoxicated, attempted several times to interfere with the officer's investigation and refused to comply with lawful orders given by the police. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to Spotswood Police Headquarters where he was processed and later released.

WHY & HOW: On the above date and time, police observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the parking lot of Spotswood High School. The vehicle was stopped on Main Street where the 17 year old driver was found to be in possession of glassine bags of marijuana and marijuana seeds. The 17 year old was also found to be in possession of numerous articles of drug paraphernalia and a wooden baseball bat concealed under the seat as a weapon. The 15 year old passenger, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was found to be in possession of a multi-colored glass pipe with marijuana residue on it. Both juveniles were taken into custody and later released to their parents with numerous charged pending. Another passenger, Alex McCarthy, was charged with interference with Borough Police during the investigation. He was placed under arrest and later released pending a court appearance in the Spotswood Municipal Court. The two male juveniles will be referred to the Middlesex County Juvenile Court for disposition in this matter. The 14 year old female was taken into custody and later released to her parents with no formal charges pending.

WHY & HOW: Pearsall was observed by officer coming out of a local liquor store with beer. He went to his car, where officer stopped him to check on his age. He was found to have lied to store clerk on his true age (false I.D.). Pearsall was charged under Spotswood's new ordinance. His friends were detained and released to parents following a reprimand by officer, without charges.

WHY & HOW: Subject was arrested at a residence on 2/12/2008 after it was reported that there was a burglary in progress. Swiecicki was observed on the property of different residences and entered a home on Manalapan Road. He was located in a shed by Capt. Zarro and arrested. During the arrest, burglary tools were discovered on Swiecicki and he was charged with burglary, criminal attempt, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and defiant trespass. He was later lodged in the MCACC in default of $25,000 bail. Court case pending.

WHY & HOW: Police are asking for witnesses for assistance in an armed robbery attempt. On Sunday morning a white male over 6 feet tall with a thin build wearing a black down style coat, a black knit ski mask with an opening for his eyes and mouth used a knife in an attempt to rob a gas station attendant at the Spotswood Exxon. When the attendant attempted to stall the actor, he fled the area. He was observed running up Main Street where he ran into a wooded area across from Renaissance Square. Police are asking any witnesses to contact the Spotswood Police Department with information. Investigation conducted by Det. Gene Scheicher, call 732-416-1859. WHY & HOW: On the above date, Ptl. Les Genovese conducted a lawful vehicle stop of the suspect's vehicle for erratic driving. The defendant was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, specifically marijuana. Based on these observations, the defendant was placed under arrest. Subsequent to the arrest, Ptl. Genovese and Sgt. Brian Keenan located two spring loaded knives and alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. Officers then located a black box containing multiple prescription pills and a glass container containing residue of marijuana. The subject was later transported to Spotswood Police Headquarters for processing. After further investigation, the suspect was found to be in possession of approximately 255 pills which he had no prescriptions for and could not prove that they were prescribed by a physician or dispensed legally by a licensed pharmacist. The subject was transported by Middlesex County Sheriff's Department and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in default of $50,000.00 bail with 10% option.

WHY & HOW: On 1/12 at 2214 hours, Spotswood Police responded to a Walker Avenue residence on a report of a possible burglary. An area resident observed a male subject climb into a window at Walker Avenue. As police units were responding, the male subject exited the home and was observed by the initial caller. The caller was able to provide arriving units with an accurate description and the subject was taken into custody. He later admitted to entering the home under police questioning.

CASE NUMBER:  08000013

CHARGE/INCIDENT: House Fire

WHEN: 01/05/08 @ 1210 hours

WHERE: 490 Main Street

WHY & HOW: A roofing worker who was hired to repair the roof to 490 Main Street caused a structure fire to the building. The building is a three story structure with four apartments. While using a torch to lay water proofing, the roof caught fire. Unable to extinguish the fire, the Spotswood Fire Department was dispatched, along with several outside fire departments. The fire quickly spread throughout the roof top before it was extinguished. Sgt. Seylaz and Ptl. Hoover, along with the Fire Department, evacuated all tenants. The Fire Inspector and Construction Official found the building unsafe to re-enter and condemned the building until repairs are made. Main Street was closed for four hours.
