WHY & HOW: On the above date and hour, Ptl. J. Pfeiffer was detailed to a traffic post on Main Street. During the course of his duties he observed a male subject drinking in public on the front porch of a doctor's office. Upon approaching,  the subject became disorderly and attempted to knock the flashlight out of the officer's hand. The subject was taken to the ground and placed into custody following a brief struggle. A 5/08/07 Spotswood Municipal Court case is pending.

WHY & HOW: Vehicle was stopped for speeding (55 mph in 35 mph zone). A strong odor of an alcholic beverage was detected from the driver. He was asked to complete several balance tests which he failed. He was placed under arrest for DWI. Spotswood Court action pending.

CHARGE/INCIDENT: Motor Vehicle Accident

WHEN: 4/23/07 @ 1038 hours

WHY & HOW: While on patrol in the parking lot of 289 Main Street, Bldg #9, Ptl Fedak observed white smoke coming from the front of the building. Upon further investigation, a vehicle had crashed into the first floot apartment 9A. A check of the vehicle revealed extensive damage to the front and the apartment. The driver, Fany Yancz was not hurt but was examined by the Spotswood Emergency Medical Service as a precaution. Yancz stated that she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. Several apartments were evacuated as a precaution. All occupants were able to go back into their apartments after being checked by code enforcement.

WHY & HOW: The above subjects were observed by police sitting on private property belonging to the Spotswood Funeral Home. Upon approaching both subjects, it was determined they were highly intoxicated. Upon asking the male for I.D. he became uncooperative and disorderly with police. The subject was placed under arrest at which time he began to resist. The female subject was placed under arrest for refusing to leave the area when instructed to do so by police. A court date is pending.

WHY & HOW: On above date and time, Spotswood Police, Spotswood EMS, and Spotswood Fire Department were all dispatched to the DeVoe Lake behind the American Legion for a report of three individuals who were in a raft that went over the waterfall. The three males were all thrown from the raft when it went over the falls. They were able to get back on the raft; however, they were unable to get out of the current of the river. Members of the Spotswood Police Department and EMS were able to throw a rope to the stranded rafters and pull them to safety. The three males were then assisted over the fence. They were all evaluated by EMS and no injuries were reported.

WHY & HOW: During a police investigation taking place on Summerhill Road, the above subject was found to be in possession of a clear plastic bag containing a greenish colored vegetation suspected to be marijuana. In addition, the subject was also found to be in possession of an open and unsealed bottle of an alcoholic beverage while in his vehicle. The subject was processed and later released pending a court appearance in the Spotswood Municipal Court on 5/17/07.

WHY & HOW: Suspect was traveling south on Summerhill road during a heavy down pour of rain, and passed another vehicle in a no passing zone. She entered the north bound lane of said roadway and almost struck a marked police unit. The officer took evasive action, and following a stop of the suspect vehicle, he determined she was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was subsequently arrested.
