RESOLUTION 2009-85
WHEREAS, on March 9, 2009 a 9-1-1 call was received at Spotswood Police Headquarters for a resident that was having difficulty breathing, EMS Crew consisting of EMTs Joseph Bassano and Christopher Hikichi responded to 124 Stewart Court to answer a call for emergency medical assistance. Upon arrival it was found that Carol Zabe was in respiratory distress; and
WHEREAS, EMTs Joseph Bassano and Christopher Hikichi, immediately began to treat the patient who went into cardiac arrest. CPR was started immediately and an airway was established on the patient while checking for shockable heart rhythm; and
WHEREAS, the EMS crew along with ALS continued CPR until Ms. Zabe was found to have regained a pulse and very shallow respirations. Paramedics from RWJUH along with the Spotswood EMS crew transported Ms. Zabe to Raritan Bay Medical Center Old Bridge for immediate treatment by the Raritan Bay Staff; and
WHEREAS, after spending time in Critical Care Ms. Zabe was released from the hospital and as of this date is alive and recuperating from the traumatic event. It is only because of the aggressive treatment and actions of all involved that Ms. Zabe is alive and with family today.
WHEREAS, this courageous action in averting what could have been a tragic loss of life and would have been a tragic loss to family, friends and the community, was an act of heroism, which deserves special recognition by the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Spotswood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Spotswood that Christopher Hikichi, EMT is hereby commended and congratulated for his professional life-saving action.
