PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is sponsoring a unique, nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program on August 3rd, 2010 entitled 'National Night Out'; and

    WHEREAS, the '27th Annual National Night Out' provides a unique opportunity for The Borough of Spotswood, in Middlesex County to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts; and

    WHEREAS, it is essential that all citizens of The Borough of Spotswood be aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and impact that their participation can have on reducing crime, drugs and violence in The Borough of Spotswood; and

    WHEREAS, police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of the 'National Night Out' program;

    NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the 2010 National Night Out, is the 2nd annual dedication to U.S. Army Soldier Spc. Michael L. Gonzalez: 'Honorary Spotswood Police Officer' who was killed in Iraq, on August 28, 2008.  Michael was a lifelong resident of Spotswood, and a leader in the Spotswood Police Academy class 001 & 002, and a United States Soldier who honored his family, friends, community and country.

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED I, Mayor Thomas W. Barlow do hereby call upon all citizens of The Borough of Spotswood to join The Spotswood Police Department and the National Association of Town Watch in supporting the '27th Annual National Night Out' on Tuesday August 3rd 2010, from 5 pm to 8 pm.

    FURTHER, LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT, I Thomas W. Barlow do hereby proclaim Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 as "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" in THE BOROUGH of SPOTSWOOD and ask the residents of Spotswood to pledge their support in honoring the Gonzalez family for Michael's unwavering dedication to serve his community by attending the 2010 "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT".
