SPOTSWOOD COED T-BALL CLINIC:
The Spotswood Recreation Department is pleased to sponsor a T-Ball Clinic each Spring for boys and girls ages 4-6. The program is designed to introduce young children to the fundamentals of baseball, sportsmanship and team play in a relaxed non-competitive atmosphere.
WHEN DO WE PLAY?
The program usually begins the second weekend in April and runs for about 8 weeks until early June. The children are organized into teams and provided a T-Shirt and Baseball cap.
All needed baseball and safety equipment is provided by the Recreation Department
with the exception of baseball gloves.
The clinic begins each Saturday at 10:00 AM and concludes by 11:45 AM.
Each team practices on its own for about 45 minutes.
After the practice period, each team plays an opponent until 11:45 AM.
HOW DO WE PLAY?
Coaches will pitch and catch for the team at bat. Each batter can be given up to 5 pitches, after that the batting tee has to be used. Every player will bat.
Players on base are allowed to advance 1 base at a time on a hit ball.
The last batter up for the team at bat is allowed to run the bases to home plate.
As soon as the last batter touches home, the “inning” ends and the other team comes to bat.
The opposing team will put all players in the field. Each team must provide 6 infielders and the balance of the players are to be positioned in the outfield. The manager and coaches should rotate players through the various positions on the field on a regular and fair basis. The sole purpose of the clinic is to provide instruction. Outs are not kept, nor are scores of games.
WHERE DO WE PLAY?
The clinic takes place on one of the two baseball fields behind Spotswood High School
and the field marked by the Memorial School backstop.
The field closest to Charles Street is Field 1.
The Memorial School field will be Field 2.
All teams will practice on a field by using both the infield and the outfield.
Games will be played on a field according to the schedule.
Registrations for this program are usually held in February.
