Public Works Laborer: The Borough of Spotswood is currently accepting applications for the position of Laborer.  Under the supervision of the Principal Public Works Employee, the successful candidate will perform the necessary manual related work as required, including but not limited to garbage collection, snow removal, and other general maintenance activities.  Full-time, 40 hours/week, plus availability during times of emergency.  Appointees are required to possess a valid NJ Motor Vehicle License with CDL Class B Endorsement, or be able to obtain the Class B certification within a specified period of time.  Starting salary $33,695, includes clothing allowance and benefits package. Part-Time Assistant to Borough Clerk - The Borough is seeking a part-time Assistant to the Municipal Clerk. The helper must possess solid interpersonal and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with the public and Borough officials and employees. Must be proficient in Office applications, and phone and email communications.  Municipal experience is a plus, as is knowledge of the Edmunds system and/or the operations of a Municipal Clerk’s office. Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Borough Clerk the part-time helper will:

  • Greet and Assist the Clerk with keeping the minutes and records of the proceedings of the Council, and of any Council committee.

  • Assist with preparing, compiling, and preserving all ordinances, resolutions, and proclamations, and at the close of each year, compile, codify and bind all the ordinances and resolutions in conformity with the plan and system of the Code of the Borough of Spotswood. Assist with properly indexing the record books, compiling or codifying ordinances and resolutions, and providing for their publication.

  • Provide secretarial services for the Clerk and Councilmembers in the discharge of their official duties such as answering the phones, typing correspondence, opening mail, and photocopying.

  • Assist with responding to OPRA requests, issuing certificates for local government, or assessment searches pursuant to state statutes, and charging and collecting the fees as provided by law, which fees are to be submitted to the Borough Treasurer.

  • Support the Clerk in performing all of the functions required by the Municipal Clerks by the general election law, N.J.S.A. 19:1-1 et seq., and any other state law or Borough ordinance.

  • Assist the Clerk to perform such functions as are vested in the Borough Clerk by state law and ordinances relating to processing and reporting on bingo and raffles licensing, dog license, liquor license, food handling, wrecker, taxi, vending, amusements, games, mercantile, AND soliciting licenses.

  • Provide secretarial assistance in administering the bid process for the Borough.

  • Will respond in a professional manner to department heads and other employees of the Borough Administration, Construction and Code Enforcement, Fire, Police, Health, Community Affairs, Finance, Office of Aging, Recreation, Public Works, Fire Prevention, Engineering, and Zoning and Planning departments and offices in pursuant of their requests for the documents held in possession by the Borough Clerk as required by ordnance.

  • Provide accurate accounting and submission of deposits related to all fees and monies collected by the Clerk’s Office, as well as submit requisitions and purchase orders.

  • May be expected to work hours outside of normal business operations for Elections, Council Meetings, Rabies Clinics, and other events as they may occur.  

  • Have such other different and additional functions, and duties as may be prescribed by law or ordinance or as assigned by the Clerk of Council.

 

WATER & SEWER UTILITY SERVICE WORKERThe Borough of Spotswood is currently seeking candidates for the position of Utility Service Worker.  Under the direction of the Principal Utility Operator, will assist in running the Utility’s .700 MGD Groundwater Treatment Plant, as well as help maintain the utilities 27 miles of sewer and 3 lift stations.  This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, plus requires availability during times of emergency.  Appointees are required to possess a valid NJ Motor Vehicle License with CDL Class B Endorsement, or be able to obtain the Class B certification within a specified period of time. Possession of NJDEP W-1, T-1, and C-1 licenses is recommended.  Please note that appointees will be required to complete other job-related training courses. OFFICE ON AGING: The Spotswood Office on Aging is currently seeking candidates for the position of Part Time Bus Driver.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience, fixed in accordance with the provisions of the ordinances governing the salaries. The acceptance of tips is strictly prohibited, as per Borough policy.

The Spotswood Office on Aging requires a part time transportation driver in the event the full time driver is on vacation, sick or otherwise unavailable. The driver may also be scheduled along with the full time driver on days where double coverage is required and for certain evening events. The driver will transport borough senior citizens to non-emergency, non-surgical local medical appointments as well as bring members to the center and on trips and events as scheduled by the Office on Aging.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, timely and professional round-trip transportation to registered members of the Spotswood Office on Aging to scheduled non-emergency, non-surgical medical appointments within the pre-determined, specified coverage area

  • Transport members for food shopping, local errands, excursions and events

  • Follow all Federal, State, and local traffic and safety regulations

  • Complete pre-trip vehicle checklist on a daily basis prior to picking up passengers

  • Submit required forms for maintenance issues/concerns and necessary repairs

  • Maintain registration, insurance documentation, EZ Passes, keys, and fuel for vehicles

  • Enforce Office on Aging policies and procedures

  • Maintain vehicles by cleaning windows and seats, while keeping traffic areas free of debris

  • Ensure all legal signage is posted in vehicles and updated as needed

  • Review reservation paperwork on a daily basis with Transportation Coordinator

  • Assist Director and other OOA staff members with duties as assigned

  • The driver may also be scheduled along with the full-time driver on days where double coverage is required and for certain evening events.  All events at this time are during the day.
